
Professional Driver Education Instructor Course
A PDI (Professional Driver Education Instructor) requires a state certification, which entails 65 hours of training and a state exam score of 90% or higher.
A PDI program costs $1,250.00 for the training to become state-certified. However, if you sign a non-compete contract to work solely for Nichols Driving School and no other driving school for a minimum of two years, we will offer the PDI training for free and will pay for your first state exam fee.
Qualifications to start the training process are:
- 21 years of age or older
- Valid Driver's License for a minimum of 2 years
- Clean driving record for 2 years
- Pass a CORI check
- HSD or GED
TRAINING HOURS NEEDED BEFORE THE STATE EXAM CAN BE TAKEN:
- 30 hours of Classroom training - Observe and participate in a class with teenagers.
- 5 hours of administration- Processing and documentation requirements of student records.
- 30 hours of in-car training - Observe students driving while another certified instructor is teaching.
- The training process is not paid - It is a course that must be completed to obtain the opportunity to take and pass a state exam.
- You can set your schedule for training hours, and training can be completed within one month, depending on your availability.
- The 30-hour classroom portion of the training will entail you sitting in on a teen class. We hold classes once a month. We offer 1-week and 2-week classes.
- 2-week classes are Monday-Friday from 4:00 PM - 7:15 PM k
- 1-week classes (during school breaks only). Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM
- The Office administration hours can be shown during class and in-car observations.
- The in-car observations can be scheduled based on staff availability for training.

- A PDI certification is valid for 1 year and must be renewed every year, one month before the expiration date. A CORI check is required every year.
